By Kate Atkinson \u2013 Narrated by Fenella Woolgar<\/strong> \u2013 This much-praised 2013 novel <\/a>by English writer Atkinson allows her main character, Ursula Todd, to live her life again and again \u201cuntil she gets it right.\u201d It begins in 1911, with Ursula\u2019s birth and almost immediate death and takes the character through multiple lives in which her and her family\u2019s fates play out in different ways. Reviewers have different interpretations of Atkinson\u2019s intent, but my interpretation is how near we skate to disaster simply living day to day. Insignificant decisions\u2013whether to walk home with childhood friend Nancy\u2013have significant consequences. It\u2019s well worth a read (or a listen), as the themes of Ursula\u2019s life and the events in it carry increasing resonance. Ursula\u2019s World War II experiences are riveting. (2\/19)
