{"id":1647,"date":"2014-03-06T07:52:41","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T12:52:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vweisfeld.com\/?p=1647"},"modified":"2014-03-19T08:03:36","modified_gmt":"2014-03-19T12:03:36","slug":"in-secret","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vweisfeld.com\/?p=1647","title":{"rendered":"In Secret"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>3-6-14 In Secret<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Oscar Isaacs, In Secret\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/vweisfeld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/hero_InSecret_2014_1_converted.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Oscar Issac, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Felton, Jessica Lang, In Secret, movie, Emile Zola, Therese Raquin\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/vweisfeld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/hero_InSecret_2014_1_converted.jpg?w=500\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t remember the 1940\u2019s film noir classics <i>Double Indemnity<\/i> (Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck) and <i>The Postman Always Rings Twice<\/i> (Lana Turner, John Garfield), you might enjoy the new suspense movie <i>In Secret<\/i> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=L58WBZDHP1s\">trailer<\/a>) more than I did.\u00a0 All three films share a basic plot line, with the latter based on the \u00c9mile Zola novel of obsessive love, <i>Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Raquin<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>The new movie stars Elizabeth Olsen, Oscar Isaac, Tom Felton, and Jessica Lange in an affecting performance as a domineering mother-in-law who becomes sympathetic after a stroke leaves her unable to speak a terrible secret. <i>In Secret<\/i> is a period piece, set in 1860\u2019s France (not only does mum-in-law smell a rat, we get to see them, too!), but the familiar plot made it less fun than it might have been.
