From this limited cruise, only <a href=\"http:\/\/auburnpub.com\/blogs\/eye_on_ny\/cuomo-s-latest-effort-to-curb-distracted-driving-texting-zones\/article_95fe0e4a-245a-11e3-8f1e-0019bb2963f4.html\">New York State<\/a> showed evidence it is tackling the dangerous practice of texting while driving. We\u2019re all familiar with the roadside \u201crest stops\u201d; now NYS has added \u201ctext stops,\u201d announced with frequent signs like \u201cIt can wait: Text stop 5 miles.\u201d These areas are pretty close together, too, at least on Interstate 81. In some places, they\u2019ve added \u201ctext stop\u201d signage above existing rest stop signs, but in others, they\u2019ve created a quarter-mile lane for cars or trucks to pull off the highway, send that vital text message, and pull back on. For what can happen when you don\u2019t, <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/JHixeIr_6BM\">see this absolutely brilliant video<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Truthfully, I didn\u2019t see very many people pulled over to text, but planting the seed that there\u2019s a time and place for texting is a worthy effort that may have a long-term impact.
