{"id":4709,"date":"2015-08-10T06:24:11","date_gmt":"2015-08-10T10:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vweisfeld.com\/?p=4709"},"modified":"2015-08-31T06:46:35","modified_gmt":"2015-08-31T10:46:35","slug":"shall-we-kiss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vweisfeld.com\/?p=4709","title":{"rendered":"Shall We Kiss?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_4710\" style=\"width: 380px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4710\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4710\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/vweisfeld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/shallwekiss370_converted.jpg?resize=370%2C235\" alt=\"Micha\u00ebl Cohen, Julie Gayet, Shall We Kiss?\" width=\"370\" height=\"235\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4710\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Micha\u00ebl Cohen &amp; Julie Gayet in Shall We Kiss?<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The 2007 French movie (<em>Un baiser s\u2019il vous pla\u00eet<\/em>)(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vi3TqzWAOJw\">trailer<\/a>) is light summer fare, more rom than com, more sweet amusement that LOL, \u201cmore quirky than wacky,\u201d as reviewer Roger Moore said in the <em>Orlando Sentinel<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>A Parisienne (the delectable Julie Gayet) stranded on the empty streets of Nantes with no taxis in sight accepts a ride to her hotel from a stranger (Micha\u00ebl Cohen), the ride leads to dinner together and obvious attraction, and that leads to his request for a goodnight kiss, \u201ca kiss without consequences,\u201d as they are both involved with other people.<\/p>\n<p>She says no and is persuaded (in fact this entire movie is filled with effectively clever persuasion) to tell him the story that she says would explain her refusal. That story becomes the majority of the movie, which Stephen Rea in the <em>Philadelphia Inquirer<\/em>, calls \u201cimpossibly French.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kisses can be very powerful, at least they are to the couple she describes, played charmingly by Virginie Ledoyen and Emmanuel Mouret, who also wrote and directed the film. They have been best friends for years and he, in a funk over his lack of physical connection with anyone, persuades her\u2014a married woman\u2014to kiss him. And, while the premise may be a little unrealistic, it\u2019s lighthearted fun, delivered smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, good choices have been made, some of which may be more bitter than sweet, and none of which were without consequences.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/shall_we_kiss\/\">Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> critics\u2019 rating: 77%; audiences 62%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2007 French movie (Un baiser s\u2019il vous pla\u00eet)(trailer) is light summer fare, more rom than com, more sweet amusement that LOL, \u201cmore quirky than wacky,\u201d as reviewer Roger Moore said in the Orlando Sentinel.
