Well worth it, in each\ncase. To help, the hotlinks for two of them include a \u201cwhere showing\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#730103\" class=\"has-text-color\"><strong><em>The Lehman Brothers Trilogy<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/ntlive.nationaltheatre.org.uk\/productions\/72252-the-lehman-trilogy\">National Theatre Live<\/a> broadcast of a London play about a family \u201cthat changed the world,\u201d written by Stefano Massini and directed by Sam Mendes, may come to a theater near you. It\u2019s coming to Broadway too, not sure when. Though I wasn\u2019t sure I\u2019d like it, with only three actors\u2014Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley, and Ben Miles\u2014playing every part, it\u2019s a stunner (<a href=\"http:\/\/ntlive.nationaltheatre.org.uk\/productions\/72252-the-lehman-trilogy\">trailer<\/a>). And staged so cleverly. It follows the original three brothers through their earliest days as immigrants in Birmingham, Alabama, through the establishment of a foothold in New York and their dizzying success there, to the company&#8217;s inglorious end. <a href=\"http:\/\/ntlive.nationaltheatre.org.uk\/productions\/72252-the-lehman-trilogy\">Find a showing here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#730103\" class=\"has-background\"><strong><em>Van Gogh &amp; Japan<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A documentary by David Bickerstaff explores how, now almost\n140 years ago, Vincent Van Gogh incorporated in his art themes and ideas from Japanese\nart (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=boPI6c-IXG4\">trailer<\/a>). He\nlearned about it by studying woodblock prints available at the time. His\ninterest took place in a France whose artists were captivated by Japonisme.\nExcellent commentary. The film\u2019s a beauty, if, at 85 minutes, a bit longer than\nnecessary. <a href=\"https:\/\/exhibitiononscreen.com\/films\/van-gogh-japan\/\">Find\na showing here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#730103\" class=\"has-text-color\"><strong><em>Shadow<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Van Gogh had his Japonisme, I have my love of ancient-China\naction movies! Zhang Yimou\u2019s 2018 film, is all in \u201cshadowy\u201d yet rich <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vweisfeld.com\/?p=8206\">tones of black, gray, and white<\/a>, heavy\nrain and fog throughout (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Zw3LjaZlSLM\">trailer<\/a>).\nThe only color is from candle flames and people\u2019s skin. And, when it comes, the\nshocking red of blood. A rival clan has occupied the hero\u2019s city. The hero\n(Deng Chao), stripped of his rank, approaches the rival leader to carry out a\npledge for single combat\u2014which he has scant hope of winning. But if he does\nwin, his clan gets its city back. And he has a ragtag army to take on the\nleader\u2019s well-trained forces using an innovative weapon\u2014umbrellas. Not like\nyours. Yin-Yang symbolism, excellent score, and romance (Sun Li), too. If you\nenjoyed Zhang\u2019s previous movies <em>Hero <\/em>and <em>House of Flying Daggers<\/em>,\nyou\u2019ll love this one!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/shadow_2018\">Rotten\nTomatoes<\/a> critics rating: 95%; audiences 82% (Americans don\u2019t like\nsubtitles).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unlike the two excellent first-run movies reviewed last week, showing widely now, it may take a little effort to seek these three out.
