Lots to like in the varied offerings of both publicationss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some of my favorites from <em>EQMM<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Mat Coward\u2019s comic adventure \u201cMorbid Phenomena of the Most Varied Kind\u201d \u2013 It\u2019s hard not to like a story that begins \u201cIf you were thinking of assassinating a politician, my main advice would be don\u2019t bother\u2014they keep spares.\u201d<\/li><li>Lou Manfredo\u2019s \u201cSundown\u201d is a police procedural (always a favorite subgenre) that fascinated me as reader and writer with its insightful look at how police detectives follow a thread and keep following it, just in case<\/li><li>I chuckled at Anna Scotti\u2019s \u201cSchr\u00f6dinger, Cat\u201d in which a man makes the mistake of taking his girlfriend\u2019s faith in him for granted<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And from <em>AHMM<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In \u201cRed Flag\u201d by Gregory Fallis deals with the disconnect between knowing a person\u2019s perceived violent tendencies are raising red flags and the system\u2019s inability to do anything about it. Quite cleverly, too<\/li><li>You can hear the howling wind and feel the lashing rains in Michael A. Black\u2019s \u201cWaiting for Godot,\u201d when a hurricane provides cover for crime<\/li><li>For a little paranormal adventure, there was Merrilee Robson\u2019s delightful \u201cTired of Bath,\u201d which includes a memorable encounter with the ghost of Jane Austen<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, I read <em>Paris Noir: The Suburbs<\/em>, an anthology of short stories in the Akashic Books Noir Series. I\u2019m pretty open-minded, but did not like this one.
